What Are You Sowing?

I missed writing a blog post last week. Even though I had made it a priority to write a post every week, I didn’t. I felt too jumbled and out of control with everything going on, but I didn’t beat myself up for not doing it. Life happens. I knew I’d get back on track. So, here I am.

The truth is, I wanted to write a funny blog but couldn’t come up with anything funny to write about. While going through my blog ideas, I came across “what we sow, we reap.” That seemed like the one to write about today.

The Law of Cause and Effect

I learned about the Law of Cause and Effect in Brian Tracy’s book, Maximum Achievement. In the book, Brian Tracy writes that the book of Proverbs says Whatsoever a man soweth, so shall he reap. This version of the Law of Cause and Effect is called the Law of Sowing and Reaping. It says whatever you sow, you reap. The idea of “you reap what you sow” comes from Galatians 6:7, which states, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows,” emphasizing that actions directly dictate future consequences.

Basically, what we think, we do.

Brian Tracy says, “Thinking is the cause and conditions are effects. Your outer world is a reflection of your inner world, and you attract what you have in your life (people, opportunities, and circumstances) that are in harmony with your dominant thoughts.”

I always thought of myself as an honest person who took responsibility, but I wasn’t living up to that. I didn’t have the awareness and tools I have now to realize that what I was doing wasn’t helping my life, but harming it. I was eating goodies without caring that I would gain weight. I was doing non-essential projects before doing the ones that brought me more satisfaction and potentially more money.  I was “reaping” exactly what I was sowing, no more and no less.

Happy Harvests

Happy people sow seeds that make them happy, and then they watch them grow into conditions that bring on more happiness. Even though I’ve been observing my life for quite some time, I think it’s tough to sow happy seeds if you weren’t conditioned to do so from a young age. Most of us weren’t. It takes total mental focus and constant attention to what you think about to keep on top of your thoughts. It takes being disciplined.

To keep thinking positively, we need to challenge negative thoughts and replace them with something positive right away. For example, if you worry about not having enough money, that’s a negative thought. In order to challenge those thoughts with positive ones, we need to see that even though things are tight right now, taking steps to change them brings us closer to a better future and success.

We want to stay at the frequency of happiness and joy, and getting there depends on what we think.

What Are You Sowing?

As a student of life, I try to learn all I can about becoming the person I long to be. I have this image in my head of me being happy. Sure, I want nice material things and more freedom to do what I please, but without feeling happy inside, all the time and money in the world won’t mean much.

The path to true happiness is one where we determine where we’re going and do that work to lay down the foundation to get there. Searching for a path that looks nice and safe will keep us living a so-so life. It won’t lead us to a great destination. Only when we roll up our sleeves and take action do we achieve greatness.

I’ve been sowing mediocrity. Playing it safe and protective. That happens when you’ve experienced setbacks and pain. But we can change what we sow just by being determined to do so. I’m determined now. You can be too.

Sow What You Desire

Getting what we want out of life must be predetermined. Take some time to think about what you want. Then, once you know that, figure out what you are willing to sow to reap the type of life you truly want.

For example, if you want to look good in a swimsuit this summer, what are you willing to do to achieve that? If you want to learn a new language so that you can speak it fluently when you travel abroad to your dream destination, how are you going to make that happen? If you want to have your own business, what do you have to do first?

You see what I mean? We need to take an action (sow) to cause an effect (reap).

Sow Well

We owe it to ourselves to live the best life possible. And life is different for everyone, so please don’t compare yourself to those who seem to be living a great life. Wishing you were living like someone else only takes away your precious energy. Instead, focus on what you can do to make your life great.

Sow well, my friend. We deserve to live a happy, fulfilling life. We want to get to the end of our journey with no regrets. I know I do.

Thank you for reading this. If you have any thoughts on the subject, I’d love to hear them.

To reaping a beautiful life,

Francesca
