How To Keep Going When Life Stalls

Recently, I’ve had another ephiphany. I’ve been getting them a lot lately. Must be tuned into a good frequency. Walking in the woods helps.

It was something that was brewing for a long time, but I wasn’t ready for the change until now. I felt like my life had stalled, and then I received what felt like a jolt to jumpstart me and get back on track. When something like this happens, we have a choice to deal with it or avoid it. I knew that to keep moving forward in a new direction, I had to face it. And it wasn’t easy.

Here’s the thing about life.

If we don’t pay attention to what’s going right, we’ll get stuck living a life that feels wrong.

Let me explain.

Brian Tracy, a motivational public speaker and self-development expert, states that the “law of concentration is that whatever you dwell upon grows. The more you think about something, the more it becomes a part of your reality. Dwell on thoughts of love, courage, hope, confidence, etc, and meditate on these daily.”

So, what Mr. Tracy is saying is that we must think good thoughts. That seems easy enough.

But in our day-to-day moment-by-moment grind, how many of us pay attention to what we’re thinking? I slip all the time and have to reel myself into the present moment.

Thinking Good Thoughts

What I’ve found is that it takes effort to think good thoughts all the time, especially when things aren’t going well, but that’s exactly what we must do. When we keep going, working toward better thinking, we find solutions, answers, help, or whatever we need to improve our life circumstances. It’s like a miracle, but it’s really not. It’s just us being mindful of our thoughts.

If life feels like it’s moving without us and we’ve lost control, then that’s a sign we need to keep going and take action to regain control, because life is worth living to the fullest.

Are We Living or Coping?

I’ve had my share of using coping mechanisms to keep going. I used to spend hours organizing things. Yes, hours. When I had no more things to organize, I felt lost. What was I supposed to do next? I felt like I had a purpose and an excuse to use my time on those things.

But how about pursuing what brings us joy instead of hiding behind coping mechanisms, like labeling glass spice jars? It’s all about being honest with ourselves, and I was not being honest until I had nothing more to hide behind.

I find it sad, if I allow myself to think about it (not often, but for this blog, I’m thinking of it), that too many people are suffering in one way or another, some not even realizing how much.

Think about it. Do you use any coping mechanisms just to “get by?” Is that what we want, to cope? Whatever happened to living a happy life? Do you believe that’s possible? If you think it’s not, stop reading right now and say to yourself, “I deserve to be happy.”

Move to the Next Chapter

We can never give up on ourselves – ever! No matter what our lives look like right now, this isn’t the end of our story. It’s a chapter, and all we have to do is decide what our next chapter is going to look like and keep going toward that.

That’s it. That’s life. It’s a constant ebb and flow, up and over the hills and mountains, around the twists and turns, hopefully learning along the way to make our future better than our past.

How to Keep Going

  1. Give yourself grace. We’re all doing the best we can with what we know at this time.
  2. Stop letting your past guide your life. What has passed is over and done. We can’t base our present or future on what was, or we’ll repeat it.
  3. Make plans. What do you want from your life? Write it down in detail. Then look at it. Then make plans on how to get it.
  4. Do the things that scare you.  You’d be surprised how you can squash your fears just by taking action. Then you’ll build up confidence to tackle anything.
  5. Pay attention to your surroundings. What’s around us can influence our thoughts and actions. Ensure that the people or things you allow into your life are healthy choices.

====================================================================================

Every single one of us can live a great life. It’s simple to do. We must first believe that to be true and then take the actions to support a great life. I know, if it’s really simple, then why aren’t all of us living great lives? Because most of us don’t believe we deserve to.

Once we change that kind of thinking, we can continue to move toward our dream life.  Simple doesn’t always mean easy. It just means there are fewer steps to take than we think. We tend to make things complicated when they don’t have to be.

Thank you for reading this. I hope I’ve offered something that resonates with you and contributes to a happier life.

To keeping going,

Francesca
