You’re Not Paying Rent, So Get Out!
I walked into my office, and my eyes glanced at the top shelf of the desk hutch, which brought back a memory I’d rather not think about. I stopped myself from thinking that, as I wrote in my last blog post, and recognized its source. Then I thought something I didn’t before – Get out of my head, you don’t belong there anymore. There’s also a meme floating around that others are not paying rent to be inside of your head, so evict them—something like that.
Yeah! Those pesky, harmful memories that pop up, as well as self-defeating behaviors and thoughts, need to be removed from our minds. Get out!

I am grateful that I can now catch my negative thinking. You don’t know how long I’ve suffered with a heavy cloak of negativity surrounding my life. This is a huge deal for me.
We all can recognize negative thoughts when we’re in the present moment. There is no other way around it. We must be aware of our thoughts in order to change them.
And guess what? The only way to real change in our lives is via our minds. You can have all the money in the world, the best partner you could ask for, or have an IQ higher than Einstein’s, but until you are in control of your thoughts and feelings, you’ll always be searching for more and never feel satisfied.
Life satisfaction occurs the moment you are living in the present moment, where you have control over what you think and how you feel.
Let me give you an example of this.
For years, whenever I found myself in a situation with someone where they did or said something to hurt me, I couldn’t defend myself. I was trapped in the past, where I was unable to process the pain because I was still feeling like that little girl who had no choices. Those feelings, emotions were like quicksand, keeping me stuck in fear and hopelessness. Seriously. There were so many “tenants” living inside my head, my voice couldn’t be heard.

Our Choices Matter More
As I healed, my voice got louder and louder. One by one, the memories (tenants) got kicked out! They had no right to be there any longer. I get to choose what I think.
That’s the beauty of living in the present moment. We get to choose how we think and what we do. The autopilot is turned off, and we are in control, and boy, does it feel great!
When we are in control of our thoughts and actions, we become better people for ourselves and others. There is that option for many, but sadly, evil exists in this world, and some individuals can be present in the moment while still harboring and spreading negative thoughts.
What is Our Answer?
For those of us who want to live a happy life, the answer lies in the question: what do we want to do that brings us joy? The answer/solution to any problem is being aware of it and then figuring out how to address it. There are no impossible situations, only irrational thinking. If we think about those who have gone before us and the things they did with inventions and creations, we might not have believed it was possible, but here we are with airplanes, motor vehicles, and ShamWow towels.
The Right Thoughts are Really Important
Everything begins with a thought—a thought in the present moment where a plan was hatched. We can do the same thing with our emotions. If we’re feeling anxious or worrying, all we have to do is pay attention to what is happening right now. What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? Get into the moment with your senses. Ask yourself what is causing you to feel anxious or worry? Really think about it and avoid falling into victim mode, blaming others. This is our life, and we can choose what happens to us.
Thoughts are really important. If we can devote a little more attention to ourselves, we’ll be able to hear our voices more clearly. That is where we can decide what it is we want. If you feel totally out of sorts and aren’t able to do that right now, that’s okay. But talk to someone about it. That always helps to reframe how we feel and turn things around in a positive way.

Evict the thoughts of the people who have wronged you. That time is gone, and there is nothing we can do about the past. We have today to make changes and live better.
Thank you for reading this. I sincerely hope that what I’m writing makes sense, like it does in my head. I am healing throughout this journey of writing blog posts. It’s been so helpful to me, and I’d love to know if it’s been helpful to you. Please let me know in the comments.
To no more unworthy mind tenants,
Francesca
