Today is the Day!
Those of you out there (like me) who often think about “someday” for your life to be great, I have some news for you (and myself). Today is the day.

I know it seems like a big feat to believe that today you are living your great life, but it’s true.
For most of my life, I have thought about so many things that could be better in my life for me to be happy and feel peace. As a kid, I wanted better clothes so I could be as pretty or popular as the other girls my age. Then, as a teenager, I wanted a boy to like me for who I was and treat me with respect and kindness. As a young adult and into my adulthood, I wanted to earn a lot of money doing what I wanted so I could live the life I chose, rather than have life dictate what I was going to do and have.
If you see a pattern, you’d be correct. I believed external things would make me happy because I didn’t have anything within me that made me believe I was enough just by being myself, and my life was good enough.
Many of us are struggling to get by and may think that life sucks, placing blame on external factors like our government, our families, or our jobs, or a lack of job, etc., but life doesn’t suck. It’s all in our perspective and how we look at things.

I heard a story (although I’m not sure if it’s true or fabricated for its message) about a father who boarded a subway car with his young children. The children were rowdy, causing a ruckus while the father sat motionless and quiet, seemingly allowing his kids to do whatever they wanted. Other travelers judged the father for turning a blind eye to his children’s misbehavior, and one brazen woman spoke up about it. The father replied that they had just left the hospital where his wife and their mother, just died. All of a sudden, the subway car grew silent; anger was replaced with empathy and compassion, and the children were no longer a bother. The criticism for being a “bad parent” for not disciplining his kids shifted to sympathy for their loss.
We possess the ability to shift our focus to something good and worthwhile. It won’t take much effort once you master the skill to focus, and that can take time to develop – at least for me it did. Everyone is different. What it does take is consistently paying attention to our thoughts.
And while I know that seems like a big chore, it’s not, really. It just means being present to what is happening right now.
I know, I know, I keep writing about being in the present moment. Blah blah blah. The reason why I do that is that’s the only place where we can make changes to our mindsets.

So, if you want to feel gratitude and blessed for today, no matter what it looks like, you need to be in the present moment, feeling good about your life right now, not when everything is perfect the way you want it to be.
I needed to learn that when we appreciate our life right now and feel grateful for it, that’s when we will attract all the people, resources, information, etc., we need to live the ultimate life we want. It’s like this: if we’re happy now, living the life we have right at this moment, we will attract more of that happiness in our life’s journey without having to complain or continue wishing for it.

* Today is the day for everything! *
It’s our day to rise above the pain.
It’s our day to put the past to rest and forgive ourselves.
It’s our day to sing praises for our health and well-being (no matter what it looks like now).
It’s our day to believe that we have all that we need.
And it’s our day to look in the mirror and love who we see.

Don’t we owe ourselves a good life? Yes, we do, and today is our life.
So, we aren’t where we want to be right now. We need to keep plugging away, working toward goals that fulfill our life’s purpose, believing it will all work out as planned, and enjoying the process along the way. That’s the key to living in the present.
Those who give up and are hopeless are allowing a past to rob them of their life. Even someone wrongly imprisoned can have hope of freedom. The mind attracts what we focus on. Focus on freedom, and freedom will come. Focus on pain, and pain will come. We need to control our thoughts about how we want to live. Our choices are our power.
Thank you for reading, and I hope what I write matters. I’d like to think so.
To today,
Francesca
